Rescue workers in Zhengzhou, the central Chinese city that earlier this week suffered severe rainfall, discovered one body inside the city’s subway system on Saturday and at least one casualty inside a road tunnel, both of which flooded during the deluge.

The death toll in the entire province of Henan as a result of the extreme weather now stands at 58 people, authorities said at a press conference on Saturday, compared to 56 a day earlier.

Five people remain unaccounted for, though unofficial tallies list several dozen people as missing.

On Tuesday, when the most severe flooding occurred in Zhengzhou, water rushed into the city’s subway line 5, trapping hundreds of passengers in chest-high water. Twelve people were confirmed to have died after a first rescue operation, but the relatives of people who remained missing had been demanding authorities to resume searching.

On Saturday morning, a 13th person was found dead in the subway tunnels, according to Sixth Tone’s sister outlet The Paper. The deceased, a man, has not yet been identified. Several more people have yet to be found.

Elsewhere in the city, at the Jingguang North Road Tunnel, an unspecified number of bodies were discovered on Saturday after flood waters that submerged hundreds of cars had been partially pumped out, an official told The Paper.
