Bank Disciplines Employee for Sharing High-Profile Client’s Account Info

    May 07, 2020

China CITIC Bank has removed a Shanghai branch manager from his position after a celebrity complained that his private account details had been shared with a third party without permission.

In a statement Thursday, CITIC said its employees had failed to follow regulations and provided a bank statement for comedian Wang Yuechi — also known by his stage name Chi Zi — to his employer upon request. The bank apologized to Wang and said it would “protect the legitimate rights of financial clients.”

On Wednesday, Wang called out the bank for granting Shanghai Xiao Guo Culture Media Co. Ltd. access to two years’ worth of personal records without permission. The comedian said he was in a contract dispute with the company after it had failed to pay him an agreed-upon salary. (Image: People Visual)
