Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has demoted a senior executive for tarnishing the company’s reputation following revelations of an extramarital affair.

Jiang Fan has been removed from his role as senior vice president of the company, as well as from Alibaba’s partnership group that appoints some board members, according to domestic media. Jiang’s “inappropriate handling of family matters has resulted in a serious public opinion crisis and had a major impact on the company’s reputation,” Alibaba said.

The announcement comes after Jiang’s wife took to social media earlier this month and accused him of having an affair with online celebrity Zhang Dayi. Jiang later apologized and requested that his employer investigate the matter. (Image: People Visual)
