WeChat To Incorporate Apple’s ‘Dark Mode’ Setting

    Mar 10, 2020

WeChat, China’s ubiquitous messaging app, will soon support Apple’s Dark Mode feature on iPhones and iPads. The new design is expected to be rolled out in WeChat’s next update, according to a Weibo post Monday from the WeChat team, which did not give a date.

“In order to optimize user experience, (we) have collaborated with Apple … and developed a (Dark Mode) feature,” the team wrote on Weibo.

The announcement came about a week after Apple gave all iPhone and iPad developers a deadline of Apr. 30 to adapt their apps and incorporate the Dark Mode function, which sets a darker color scheme that may be preferable in low-light settings. The feature was introduced with Apple’s iOS 13 operating system on Sept. 13.

Many apps including Twitter and Reddit adopted the feature with the September update. Some Chinese apps, such as review app Douban and video-streaming app iQiyi, have followed suit since. (Image: From @梓宛 on Weibo)
