Peopled Urged Not to Take Photos in Qinghai’s Scenic Highways

    Aug 12, 2019

Authorities in the northwestern Qinghai province have urged travelers not to conduct photo shoots in the middle of scenic highways, following a number of accidents in recent months.

In a statement Saturday, the provincial traffic bureau discouraged people from “standing, sitting, or lying” on parts of the Qinghai-Xinjiang Highway for photographs and implored them to travel in a “civilized and safe” manner. According to media reports, traffic police see over 100 such photo shoots every day, and in July, four people were injured while snapping shots along the highway.

The province’s harsh landscapes, high mountains, and winding roads have become popular among travelers for inspiring social media-worthy photos. However, according to the authorities, social media validation should not come at the cost of obstructing traffic or putting lives at risk. (Image: @青海交警总队 on Weibo)
