The esports events of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta kicked off on Sunday with five-on-five battle arena game “Arena of Valor,” with China taking first place out of eight teams. The silver and bronze medallists were Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) and Vietnam, respectively.
Unfortunately for China’s millions of esports fans, the competition was not broadcast on television, nor was it accessible on major streaming websites without a proxy, such as a virtual private network (VPN).
After the Olympics, the Asian Games are the world’s second largest multi-sport event. Though esports has been introduced as an event this year, medals won will not count toward teams’ final medal tallies until the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. (Image: VCG)
