A court has sentenced to death a 31-year-old man who killed his wife and hid her body in a refrigerator for more than three months.
Zhu Xiaodong, of Shanghai, strangled Yang Liping to death in October 2016 following a dispute about “trivial domestic affairs,” court documents said. After the murder, Zhu then concealed Yang’s body in a household fridge. Before turning himself in to police in February 2017, Zhu impersonated the deceased, maintaining contact with Yang’s family via her personal WeChat account.
The case was widely publicized on Chinese social media late last year. On Thursday, the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court handed down a verdict of homicide, adding that Zhu took vacations, dated other women, and spent money from Yang’s bank accounts after killing her.
