Miaopai, the short-video platform hailed as China’s Vine, on Monday denied media reports that its mobile app had been permanently removed from app stores.
A report by Securities Daily that was later republished by Xinhua said Miaopai’s app would no longer be available in Chinese app stores. Last week, China’s cyberspace administration ordered that over a dozen short-video platforms, including Miaopai, be removed from app stores or shut down completely due to lapses in oversight of user-uploaded content.
But a Miaopai employee later told media that the internet regulator had given the company no indication that the suspension was indefinite. The source added that Miaopai is now going through a period of “rectification.” (Image: IC)
