They’re out for blood.
“Cells at Work!” is a Japanese anime series that explains the functions of blood cells. The show is a hit on Chinese video platform Bilibili, and audiences especially love Platelet, personified as a cute little girl.
On Tuesday, self-professed fans flooded the Baidu Tieba “platelet” discussion board, which had been an online forum for patients with platelet disorders to share medical information. Some even demanded that patients leave the board so that it could be devoted to the anime character instead of related health conditions — inciting public anger.
Bilibili later made a statement claiming that the posters were not genuine fans but trolls aiming to frame the site. The company is now investigating the case and preparing legal action. (Image: Bilibili)
