A popular medicinal beverage may not be nearly as effective as advertised, The Beijing News reported Monday — or even effective at all.
Qingdao Zhongteng Biotechnology claims that its product, Quantum Drink, can cure heart disease, lower cholesterol, and control blood pressure. But a food safety expert from Purdue University told The Beijing News that there is no scientific evidence of any of this, and a Beijing lawyer said the manufacturer’s promotions constitute false advertising. The company told Sixth Tone it is investigating the accusations.
Earlier this year, physician Tan Qindong was detained after allegedly slandering a popular brand of medicinal wine. Last week, he was hospitalized after an apparent mental breakdown, and days later apologized on Weibo. The next day, charges were dropped. (Image: Weibo)
