Yu Zheng, a writer known for television soaps with Mary Sue storylines, has been publicly named and shamed after disobeying a court ruling that ordered him to apologize to his rival for plagiarism, the Beijing High Court announced Thursday.
In 2015, Chen Zhe, the famed novelist behind “The Return of the Pearl Princess,” won a copyright lawsuit against Yu, who was required to issue a public apology and pay Chen 5 million yuan ($790,000) for copying her plots. But years later, after failing to appeal or overturn the ruling, Yu resolutely refuses to apologize, and has rejected calls and returned mail from the court. On Thursday, the court posted a notice listing Yu’s misdeeds in state media outlet Legal Daily. (Image: VCG)
