An educational think tank studied 393 cases of suicide and attempted suicide among youth aged between 8 and 17 to analyze the major causes, The Paper reported Friday.
The report found that family conflict was the major trigger in 33 percent of cases and study pressure in 26 percent, followed by conflicts with teachers at 16 percent. School bullying, mental illness, and other issues made up the remainder. The study also found that male students were 1.6 times more likely to commit suicide than female students.
The report was jointly released by 21st Century Education Research Institute — a Beijing-based think tank — and Social Sciences Academic Press to call for education reform and better prevention measures. (Image: VCG)
