Blaze Consumes Henan High-Rise
A fire devoured one side of a 20-story office building in Zhengzhou, the capital of central China’s Henan province, on Thursday.
The local fire department received emergency calls at around 1:30 p.m. and dispatched eight squads to the building, which is owned by Greenland Group, a Chinese real estate developer.
By 2:50 p.m., the fire was contained, enabling rescue squads to enter. According to the Zhengzhou fire department’s official Weibo microblog, there were no casualties or injuries. The fire was extinguished by 4 p.m.
Calls to Greenland’s Zhengzhou office went unanswered on Thursday.
The approximately 60-meter-tall building has 20 floors above ground and two basement levels. According to the fire brigade, the blaze started in the southern part of the building and swept across the exterior, covering more than 2,000 square meters.
The fire brigade is still investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
