A China Eastern Airlines plane carrying 132 people crashed Monday afternoon, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.

The flight, MU 5735, was en route from the southwestern city of Kunming to Guangzhou with 123 passengers and nine crew members, said the Civil Aviation Authority of China.

The Boeing 737-800 plane is said to have crashed in Teng County in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to media reports. The emergency management team in Wuzhou City, of which Teng County is a part, confirmed to Sixth Tone’s sister publication, The Paper, that there was “an airplane accident” in the area.

The flight took off from Kunming at 1:15 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at 2:57 p.m. Flight monitoring platform Flightradar24 showed the plane rapidly falling to lower altitude at around 2:20 p.m.

The cause of the crash and number of casualties remain unclear.
