Wuhan Housing Community Used Garbage Truck To Deliver Food Rations

    Mar 12, 2020

A residential community in Wuhan is under fire for using a trash truck to deliver food rations to its residents while the city is under lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple domestic outlets reported Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, photos shared on social media of the garbage truck delivering meat and vegetables sparked outrage online, with a related hashtag on microblogging Weibo viewed more than 190 million times by the following afternoon.

The housing community, Gangdu Gardens, apologized Wednesday night, admitting that they had used the truck to transport 1,000 rations of meat. The community said it would recall the meat and warn residents against eating it.

Since the Wuhan government ordered all residential complexes under lockdown on Feb. 10, people have had to rely on community workers to deliver their daily essentials, including food items.

Two officials from the Gangdu Gardens were held responsible for the incident and dismissed, while the deputy district chief is under investigation, according to Wuhan’s discipline bureau. (Image: From @辣笔小球 on Weibo)
