Netizens have taken to social media to demand that one of the Chinese mainland’s most prestigious film festivals improve the designs for its promotional materials.
On microblogging platform Weibo, users have described one poster for this year’s Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival as “cheesy” and “ugly,” echoing characterizations of other posters for the annual event from past years. Many online said organizers would need to step up their creativity to outdo the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival — a competing event across the Taiwan Strait that is sometimes referred to as the Oscars of Asia.
“We’re counting on you to be the best awards for Chinese-language cinema, Rooster,” one Weibo user commented under a related post. “But first, please stop being cheesy.”
Last week, China’s film regulator barred anyone working in the mainland movie industry from attending the Golden Horse in November. Each year, the Taiwanese festival bestows awards for Chinese-language films from across the globe, including those from the Chinese mainland. (Image: Weibo)
