Chinese Conglomerate To Open Ski Resorts, Schools Amid Surging Demand

    Nov 07, 2019

Club Med, a luxury resort company owned by Chinese conglomerate Fosun Group, is adding three new ski resorts and two ski schools as it plans to funnel more investment into China’s “ice and snow” holiday market, the company said Wednesday at the China International Import Expo.

Club Med’s new resorts will be built at Changbai Mountain in the northeastern Jilin province and at Taicang an hour’s drive from Shanghai. The two ski schools will be opened in Beijing and Hebei — host sites for events at the 2022 Winter Olympics — in cooperation with the French ski school École du Ski Français.

China’s ice and snow holiday market has developed rapidly alongside the country’s ramped-up plans for 2022. According to a white paper on China’s ski industry, the domestic market in 2018 increased by 14.4% from the previous year. (Image: VCG)
