Shanghai Economic Forum Calls for ‘Shared Future for Mankind’

    Nov 06, 2019

A group of experts and academics from around the world are calling for the creation of a “community with a shared future for mankind” with the release of a new paper at an international conference in Shanghai.

The paper, titled “China’s 70-year Development and the Building of a Community With a Shared Future for Mankind,” was unveiled Wednesday at the second annual Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai. More than 400 people from global think tanks, academic institutions, and media outlets gathered together with high-level Chinese officials for the conference, which is taking place concurrently with the China International Import Expo.

“The current world is facing challenges such as unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemony. Some countries are pursuing their short-term self interests and will cause severe damage to the long-term development of mankind,” the paper said, without identifying the countries it was referring to.

The “community with a shared future for mankind” concept was coined in 2013, as China’s leaders aimed to build a new framework for international relations, and to promote and improve global governance. (Image: IC)
