Chinese Pilot Fired for Letting Passenger Take Cockpit Photo

    Nov 05, 2019

A Chinese airline announced that one of its pilots has been “banned for life” after a photo of a female passenger posing in a jet cockpit went viral over the weekend.

The incident occurred on an Air Guilin flight earlier this year from the city of Guilin in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to Yangzhou in the eastern Jiangsu province, according to a statement from the airline Monday. The female passenger, who is believed to be the unnamed pilot’s girlfriend, had uploaded the cockpit picture on microblogging site Weibo. It was then shared by another user Sunday, prompting an online backlash.

China’s aviation laws forbid passengers from entering the cockpits of commercial aircraft. In January, a pilot with Donghai Airlines was banned from flying for six months and fined 12,000 yuan ($1,700) for allowing his wife into the cockpit. (Image: From Weibo)
