A court in southern China’s Hainan province has sentenced a woman to four years in prison after she slapped a bus driver late last year, according to local media reports.
During a public hearing Thursday, the Meilan District People’s Court in Haikou said the woman, surnamed Chen, was given the sentence for “endangering public security” during the 2018 incident. Local police had detained Chen in December after she allegedly slapped the driver of a moving bus in retaliation for being charged an extra 1 yuan ($0.15) for her bus fare, media reports said.
The sentence comes just months after a similar dispute in the country between a passenger and driver led to a fatal accident. In October, a bus carrying 15 people plunged into a river in the southwestern city of Chongqing following a heated altercation. (Image: HiNews.cn)
